FAQs

I have a ton of jewelry and I’m overwhelmed. Where do I start?

Start by sending me a message. We will determine a good time for an initial consultation.

How much is a consultation?

Initial consultations of 30 minutes are absolutely free. Lets start there and determine next steps.

Do I have to pay if the item isn’t worth appraising?

During the consultation we will separate the items worth appraising from the unworthy at no charge.

Do you provide verbal appraisals?

No. The only service I provide are full written jewelry appraisals. I will sort through items with you during your 30 minutes consultation to give you an idea of what should be appraised fully.

Will I receive my appraisal within my appointment?

Generally, yes. 90% of appraisals will result in client leaving with a physical and/or digital copy of appraisal. Some appraisals do require further research and may take longer.

I don’t want to leave my items. Can you still do the appraisal?

Usually, yes. As long as the items do not require extensive research, the appraisals will be done while client is in the office.

If I leave my items, will they be insured?

100% yes! All items left with MJA will be fully insured and stored in vault overnight.

Do you offer house calls?

Yes. I will travel the entire United States depending on the situation. Feel free to message me for further details and a quote.

I have jewelry to sell. What should I do?

I would recommend we start with a 30 minute consultation to see what your goals are for the sale. Over the last 25 years I’ve built relationships with those that do buy. I can certainly make the connections you will need. You having an immediate offer from one of these buyers is the norm.

I can provide full reports for insurance, fair market, estate, and liquidation appraisals.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Creating an accurate appraisal means examining all of the evidence related to a particular piece of jewelry. Please bring any receipts, previous appraisals, lab reports, certificates. These documents may be crucial for accurately accessing a value.

All appraisals are different. Generally, it takes 30 minutes per item, on average, to complete an appraisal.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and credit cards via Paypal. I will also accept gold scrap in trade for services.
